Bishopton Veterinary Group in North Yorkshire is celebrating winning a cat friendly clinic gold award from the International Society of Feline Medicine, the veterinary division of International Cat Care (ICC).
Vet, Lucy Preece said, feedback from clients was very good. "ICC is not able to recommend practices, but it can point out practices such as ours that have achieved this high standard". She added: "We have a seperate cat ward - the cat cages have to be a certain size and we have to create the right environment for hospitalised cats. We also have a seperate cat section in our waiting room to ensure cats are not sitting next to dogs while they are waiting".
Bishopton Vets also successfully treated their 300th case of hyperthyroidism (excessive thyroid hormone levels, seen in cats) at their iodine treatment centre. The centre first opened in 2008 and is one of only a handful of places in the UK offering this gold-standard treatment.
Vet Lucy Preece, who runs the iodine treatment centre, said 'We are thrilled to have achieved both the Cat Friendly Clinic gold award and the successful iodine treatment of our 300th cat. Our dedicated 24 hour team take pride in offering high standards of care both for our own patients and those referred to us from other veterinary practices.'
Head nurse, Beverley Boynton became the practices's 'cat advocate' to help spearhead the bid to achieve the standard.
